1 Corinthians 14
Stop focusing on ourselves, but on what God wants for His kingdom!

Read 1 Corinthians 14. Which part of 1 Corinthians 14 inspired you the most?
  1. The Focus on Building up the Church: Paul gave the priority of prophecy over the spiritual gift of tongues (i.e. the ability to speak in other languages when one is empowered by the Holy Spirit) because prophecy edifies the church while tongues only edifies the speaker. We should always evaluate our ministries and/or our motives lest we focus more on ourselves than on building up one another. Pride and self-centeredness could creep into our lives in a subtle way, list down areas of which you may need to be aware.

  2. The Focus on Maturity: Paul admonished the Corinthians to “stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in [their] thinking be adults” (v.20). Reflect upon your spiritual life in the past years, in what ways that you have grown, and in what ways that you have been stagnant.

  3. The Focus on Orderliness: Paul emphasized that “everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way” (v.40) for “God is not a God of disorder but of peace (v.33). Are there areas in your life that you consider as disorderly? List down ways that you could improve in those areas.

  4. Your own insight: (fill in yourself)

Meditation and Application:

Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Pray over areas that you need to improve (i.e. pride & self-centeredness in #1, spiritual stagnancy in #2, disorderliness in #3), and draft a plan to start working on these areas.
