1 Corinthians 6
Strive not to win against our brothers, but against temptations. Learn to yield, to flee, and not to be mastered!
Read 1 Corinthians 6. Which part of 1 Corinthians 6 inspires you the most?
-
To Yield: Paul admonished the Corinthians not to have the “must win” mentality towards another; but instead, rather willing to be wronged or to be cheated. During disagreements or arguments, do you have the tendency to be assertive or even aggressive in order to prove yourself right or to win? Or are you the type that is willing to yield or to compromise?
-
To Flee: The body of a Christian is a temple of the Holy Spirit (v.19), and Paul instructed us to be holy and flee from sexual immorality (v.18). What are some of the temptations around you? Write down some practical ways that you could run away from them.
-
Not to be Mastered: Paul laid out an important principle, “‘Everything is permissible for me’ — but not everything is beneficial. ‘Everything is permissible for me’ — but I will not be mastered by anything” (v. 12). Try to evaluate the activities on your daily schedule and see how much time you have put in things that are not “beneficial,” and whether there are activities under which you are being mastered (i.e. TV, internet, computer games, etc.).
