1 Corinthians 8
“Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.”

Read 1 Corinthians 8. Which part of 1 Corinthians 8 inspired you the most?
  1. Be Considerate: The focus of the whole passage is more than just food sacrificed to idols, but to be considerate when we exercise our liberty (“Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak.” v. 9). How do you usually react to the weak (e.g. annoyed, impatient, despise, etc.)? Reflect upon your life; in what way(s) that your freedom might have caused others to stumble? What can you do about it?

  2. Beware of Knowledge: One of the repeated words in the chapter is “knowledge” or “know.” Count how many times those two words appeared in the passage. Knowledge often leads to pride, what is Paul’s solution (cf. vv.1-3)? In what way you could exercise “love” to build up those around you (v.1)?

  3. Your own insight: (fill in yourself)

Meditation and Application:

Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Starting with those who are closest to you (i.e. family members, close friends, etc.), think of practical ways that you could build them up with love (e.g. words of encouragement, serving them, spending quality time with them, etc.). Pray for consistency and persistency in carrying out your plan.
