1 Peter 3
The key to a harmonious relationship — Love and Respect
Which part of 1 Peter 3 inspires you the most?
  1. A Harmonious Home (vv.1-7): Wives are to submit to their husbands and husbands are to be considerate and respect their wives. What are some of the issues that you encounter in your family relationship? What could you do to improve it? Try walking an extra mile to bring harmony to your home (e.g. be more gentle with your words, practice active listening, apologize, forgive, etc.).

  2. A Compassionate Conduct (vv.8-12): We are to be compassionate, to live in harmony with one another, and to repay evil with blessing. Is it difficult to repay evil with blessing? Why or why not? Think of practical ways that you could repay evil with blessing.

  3. A Clear Conscience (vv.13-22): Two times Peter mentioned “good conscience” in this passage (vv.16 & 21; though NIV 1984 translated them differently). The Greek word translated “conscience” here is “suneidesis,” it means “Together-Perceiving”; and the English word “conscience” comes from two Latin words: con, meaning “with,” and scio, meaning “to know.” The conscience acts as the internal judge that witnesses to us, enabling us to “perceive together” or to “know with” — either approving our actions or accusing (cf. Rom. 2:14-15). Peter asserted that when we act out of a good conscience to do good (i.e. genuinely without hypocrisy), we could stop those who accuse us falsely. Have you experienced good conscience at work in your life? How? List incidents of how good conscience has approved or accused your actions in the past.

  4. Your own insight: (fill in yourself)

Meditation and Application:

Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Focus on improving your relationship with your family members and/or your friends.
