Walk in Love, Walk in Obedience!
Read 2 John. Which part of 2 John inspires you the most?
-
Walk in Obedience: John was joyful to find that believers were walking in the truth (v.4), and encourage them to walk in obedience to God’s command (v.6). Do you find it hard to obey God’s command? Which command(s) do you find it a challenge to obey? Why? What can you do about it?
-
Walk in Love: Love is walking in obedience to God’s command (v.6). Please note that loving one another is not a suggestion, not even an advice, but a command. In other words, we have no choice but to love. Stop asking the question whether you should love or not, but how to express love in your daily life. Pick one or two people to express love in a tangible way this week, and try to expand this “Circle of Love” to more people in the coming month.
-
Watch for Deceivers: There are deceivers who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh (v.7). We are not to “run ahead” (i.e. go beyond) the teaching of Jesus Christ but to “abide” (v.9, ESV; “continue” in NIV) in His teaching. If we do not understand the Bible, it is very easy to be deceived. Set aside time for your daily devotion, or enroll yourself in a Bible reading program or in free online Seminary courses (e.g. “How to Read the Bible Like a Seminary Professor,” “Can You Trust the Bible,” or other Bible courses by Dallas Theological seminary. Your own insight: (fill in yourself)
Meditation and Application:
Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Focus on how you could express love in a tangible way, and how you could better equip yourself in the Word of God. Take action and start now!
