2 Thessalonians 1
Trust in God's Judgment and Let Trials Bring out the Best of your Character
Which part of 2 Thessalonians 1 inspires you the most?
-
The Maturity of the Thessalonians: Paul thanked God and boasted about the Thessalonians’ faith (vv.3a, 4), love (v.3b), and perseverance (v.4) even amidst persecutions and trials. Recall the time when you faced trials, did trials bring out the best or the worst of you? How so?
-
The Justice of God: Paul encouraged the Thessalonians that God was just and would count them worthy for their suffering, and would avenge those who persecuted them. Recall some of the unfair incidents in your life, resolve not to take revenge in your own hand and exercise forgiveness, believing that God is a fair judge who would avenge for you (cf. Rom. 12:19; Heb. 10:30).
-
The Prayer of Paul: Paul prayed that the Thessalonians might be counted worthy, and that God might fulfill every good purpose and good act of them; so that Christ’s name might be glorified. The ultimate purpose of Paul’s prayer was the glory of God. Think of at least 3 practical ways that you could bring glory to God.
