Acts 19
Faith in Jesus is not to benefit, gain power, or regret, but to follow Jesus wholeheartedly!
Read Acts 19 (Paul's 3rd Missionary Journey — Ephesus). Which part of Acts 19 inspires you the most?
  1. Repentance is not Enough: The Twelve with John’s Baptism — John’s baptism is a baptism of repentance; just turning away from one’s old way is not enough, the “twelve men” who were baptized with John’s baptism was instructed to believe in Jesus (19:4). Being a Christian is more than feeling remorse about one’s sins, but to be reborn in Christ Jesus (Jn. 3:3-8). Don’t just turn away from sins, but draw close to God.

  2. Faith has no Substitute: Paul’s Ministries in Ephesus — Paul spent about 3 years in Ephesus (20:31); the power of the Holy Spirit enabled him to do miraculous deeds that no one else could duplicate or imitate (19:12-16). In fact, the seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, tried to drive out demons in Jesus’ name; yet, were overpowered by the evil spirit (19:13-16). As Jesus reminded us, “If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (Jn. 15:5). Don’t just desire God’s power, desire His presence.

  3. God’s Work will face Resistance: The Riot in Ephesus — Whatever God builds up; the Devil will try to tear it down. Yet, let’s not be dismay, as Paul proclaimed, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Cor. 4:8-9). Don’t be afraid of resistance, fight the good fight.

Meditation and Application:

In what way that you could draw close to God this coming week. Set aside a time that you could have some “unhurried time” with God. Remember, apart from Him you can do nothing
