Acts 23
God’s protection and deliverance are amazing! Commit your ways to the Lord, and He will carry you through!
Read Acts 23. Which part of Acts 23 inspires you the most?
  1. Paul’s Respect of Authority: There are different interpretations regarding Paul’s outburst of anger towards Ananias (23:3) and his later confession that he “did not realize that [Ananias] was the high priest” (23:5). However, his addressing the people as “brothers” indicates that he did not say it in a sarcastic manner (i.e. “I could not recognize such person who violated the law fits to be a high priest”), but he really did not recognize Ananias being the high priest. Though Paul was enraged at Ananias’ violation of the law, he still respected the authority of a high priest. Likewise, we need to respect our authorities.

  2. Paul’s Wisdom before the Sanhedrin: Paul recognized the different views between the Pharisees and the Sadducees regarding resurrection; thus, purposely brought out the subject to cause dispute between them (vv.6-9). As Jesus instructed the Twelve, “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves” (Matt. 10:16), we need to pray for wisdom as we witness for the Lord. Start praying for wisdom as you serve the Lord.

  3. God’s Sovereign Protection over Paul: It is ironic to see the lengths to which the Jews (God’s chosen people) would go to eliminate Paul, versus the lengths to which the Roman government would go to protect him. It is amazing how God works in His own way in protecting His people. Recall how God has protected or delivered you in the past, and thank Him for His protection.
