The Hope of Resurrection: The introduction as well as the conclusion of Paul’s defense is around the hope of resurrection (vv.6-7, 23; i.e. a Messiah who could conquer death). As Paul emphasized in 1 Cor. 15:14, “And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” This hope is the power that sustained Paul in midst of all his trials and sufferings (Rom. 8:18; 2 Cor. 4:17). Yes, in this world, we will have trouble, but Christ has overcome the world (Jn. 16:33). So, hang on...even in midst of trials!

Paul’s Clear Conviction of His Mission: Paul was called “to open [unbelievers’] eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in [Jesus]...that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds (vv.18-20). Even under trial, Paul tried to persuade his listeners to believe (vv.27-29). Never lose sight of our calling to be Christ’s witness both “in season and out of season” (2 Tim. 4:2)

Meditation and Application:
-
In what way that the hope of resurrection could alleviate the stress or trials that you’re facing? Give all your troubles to Him, knowing that His resurrected power is at work within us (Eph. 1:19-20), and He “is able to do immeasurably more that all we ask or imagine” (Eph. 3:20).
