Acts 4
There is power in Jesus’s name! Pray in His name, trust in His name, and glorify His name!
Read Acts 4. Which part of Acts 4 inspires you the most?
-
The reference to Jesus’ Name: Go check how “name” is used in Acts 3 & 4 (3:6, 16; 4:7, 10, 12, 17, 18). A name implies more than just identity, it carries with it authority, reputation, and power. Peter healed the crippled man in Jesus’ name; he further proclaimed, “There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (v.12). Pray in His name, trust in His name, and glorify His name.
-
The Boldness of Peter & John: Peter and John were viewed as “unschooled, ordinary men” (v.13); and yet, they stood before the Sanhedrin (i.e. Jewish court) and refused to follow their order to stop speaking about Jesus. It’s okay to be ordinary; following Jesus enables ordinary people to do extra ordinary things. Recall incidents when you might be timid in sharing your faith; pray for boldness and rely on God’s transforming power. Remember, it’s not about us, it’s about Him.
-
The Love in the Early Church: How beautiful it is when the Bible says, “There were no needy persons among them” (v.34). Bless others with our earthly possessions, for our rewards will be great in heaven (“...use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings” Lk. 16:9). Think of a few friends whom you could help out and do practical things for them, such as bringing them meals, babysitting for them, preparing care packages for them, etc.
