Acts 6
Focus on God’s calling, develop your characters, and trust in Him even during trials.
Read Acts 6. Which part of Acts 6 inspires you the most?
-
The Delegation of Responsibilities: When the Apostles couldn’t handle all the logistics of the early church, they selected seven men (often called deacons) to take care of the distribution of food. The Apostles realized that their priorities should be on prayer and on the ministry of the word instead of administration; what then is your priority in life? Try to list down a few of your priorities. Look upward, distinguish what God’s calling(s) for you is/are.
-
The Qualifications of the Seven: Let’s note that the qualifications of these leaders were not administrative skill, talents, or abilities; but “of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom” (6:3 ESV). Try listing down some of the qualities that you possess (i.e. character traits, not skills), as well as, some qualities that you would like to acquire. Look inward, focus on developing your spiritual qualities.
-
False Accusations Against Stephen: At times life may seem unfair, and the wicked may temporarily prosper while the righteous suffers. In fact, the persecution of the early church did intensified from that point onward. Yet, let’s not forget God’s promise, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay" (Rom. 12:19). As Paul says, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us” (Rom. 8:18). List down some of the unfair treatments that you have experienced; take them to the Lord and believe in His good will. Look forward, trust in God's leading.
