Galatians 5
Need a GPS in life? Be sensitive and submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Which part of Galatians 5 inspires you the most?
-
Love over Law: Paul reminded the Galatians to stand firm and not to be affected by legalism; but instead, to have "faith expressing itself through love" (v.6). Furthermore, “the entire law is summed up in a single command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (v.14). What practical things could you do to demonstrate love to those around you, starting with your immediate family, your church family, and so on?
-
Spirit over Sin: Freedom from the law doesn’t mean lawlessness. Christians need to live by (v.16) and be led by the Holy Spirit (v.18). Out of the 9 characteristics or virtues of the fruit of the Spirit (i.e. love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control), what are your forte and on what do you need to improve? Though we may be tempted to figure out ways to improve in those areas, remember that those are the characteristics of the fruit of the Spirit (organic) and not performance or good works (mechanic, lest we may fall back into legalism). Be sensitive to and follow the prompting of the Spirit, and see how these virtues could be demonstrated in your life.

Meditation and Application:
Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Remember that the “master of the house” is no longer law and good work, but the Holy Spirit. Memorize Galatians 5:22-23, and focus on living out the virtues of the fruit of the Spirit.
