Hebrews 5
Don’t always be a baby, grow up!
Read Hebrews 5. Which part of Hebrews 5 inspired you the most?

NOTE: “...the fascinating thing about Melchizedek is that he was both a priest and a king...Only in Jesus Christ and in pre-Law Melchizedek were these two offices combined. Jesus Christ is a High Priest on a throne! The reason Jesus Christ can be "a Priest forever" is that He belongs to the "order of Melchizedek." As far as the Old Testament record is concerned, Melchizedek did not die (see Heb. 7:1-3). Of course, because he was a real man, he did die at some time; but the record is not given to us. So Melchizedek becomes a picture of our Lord Jesus Christ who is a Priest forever.”*

  1. Christ’s Obedience: Although Jesus is the son of God, He learned obedience from what He suffered (v.8). Have you had similar experiences that you grew much closer to God during your trials? Recall some of these experiences and write down how you have grown spiritually during your sufferings. Thank God for these blessings in disguise.

  2. Be Mature: The Hebrew Christians were immature and were slow to learn (v.11). They were supposed to be teachers (v.12) but they were still infants in Christ (v.13). Examine your spiritual walk with God and see in what area(s) that you need to be more mature. Try listing out concrete ways by which you could accomplish that.

  3. Practice Makes Perfect: By constant use of the truth (teaching of righteousness, v.13), mature Christians have trained themselves to distinguish between good and evil (v.14). Have you been practicing what you have learned from His Word? Why or why not? How could you improve?

  4. Your own insight: (fill in yourself)

Meditation and Application:

Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Thank God for the trials that help you grow into maturity. Focus on how you could put your faith into action so that you could grow to be more mature.
