Hebrews 6
Don’t be lazy, be diligent to the end!
Read Hebrews 6. Which part of Hebrews 6 inspires you the most?

NOTE: “6:4-6. This passage has been interpreted in four ways: (1) that the danger of a Christian losing his salvation is described, a view rejected because of biblical assurances that salvation is a work of God which cannot be reversed; (2) that the warning is against mere profession of faith short of salvation, or tasting but not really partaking of salvation (The New Scofield Reference Bible, p. 1315); (3) that hypothetically if a Christian could lose his salvation, there is no provision for repentance (The Ryrie Study Bible, p. 1843); (4) that a warning is given of the danger of a Christian moving from a position of true faith and life to the extent of becoming disqualified for further service (1 Cor. 9:27) and for inheriting millennial glory. The latter is the interpretation adopted here.”* It is crucial to understand that Hebrews 6 is not talking about a person losing his salvation but an encouragement for Christians to go on to maturity (v.1).

  1. Strive for Maturity: The author encouraged the readers to leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity (v.1). It is of utmost importance that we have to keep growing and to bear fruits (v.7, produce a crop). As in the parable of the sower (Matt. 13), what are some of the obstacles you face that would hinder your fruitfulness? What could you do about them?

  2. Diligent to the End: We are exhorted not to be lazy but to imitate those who are faithful and patient (v.11), for God will remember our good work (v.10). Think of one or two people, whether biblical characters or people in real life, whom you would like to imitate. Why?

  3. Trust in God’s Promise: The blessings to Abraham (i.e. the Messianic hope) was also extended to Christians in general (“to the heirs of what was promised” v.17). It was confirmed by two unchangeable things: God’s promise (“it is impossible for God to lie” v.18) and God’s oath (v.17). What are some of the doubts that you have towards God’s goodness or promises? Remember that it is impossible for God to lie, cast all your doubts before Him and thank God for His promise as you rest in Him.

  4. Your own insight: (fill in yourself)

Meditation and Application:

Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Focus on dealing with the hindrances to your spiritual growth in this coming month.
