Hebrews 7
Jesus is our ultimate great high priest!
Read Hebrews 7. Which part of Hebrews inspires you the most?
  1. The Greatness of Melchizedek: Melchizedek was both king and priest (v.1), with names meaning “king of righteousness” and “king of peace” (v.2b). There is no record of his genealogy (v.3); but he had authority to receive tithes from Abraham, and to bless Abraham (vv.2a, 4-10). Melchizedek is a type (i.e. pattern/likeness) of our Lord Jesus Christ; in what ways do you find commonalities between them? What is the significance?

  2. The New Priesthood Supersedes the Old: Jesus is more superior than Aaron’s priesthood since the old priesthood and the Law were imperfect (vv.11-14) and could not continue forever (vv.15-19). Yet, Jesus became a priest with God’s oath that cannot be broken (vv. 20-22). He lives forever and has a permanent priesthood while human high priests would die (vv.23-25). Furthermore, He is holy and does not need to sacrifice for His sin, for He sacrificed for mankind once and for all (vv.27-28). In contrast with the Levitical priests, Jesus is the perfect High Priest; so bring all your requests to Him and He will serve your every need.

  3. Your own insight: (fill in yourself)

Meditation and Application:

Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Praise the Lord for His supreme priesthood. Furthermore, reflect and see if your have any burdens or worries in your heart; come and lay all these burdens and worries before our ultimate great high priest, trusting that He will make everything beautiful in His time.
