Hebrews 8
Jesus is the mediator of the superior ministry of a superior covenant.
Read Hebrews 8. Which part of Hebrews 8 inspired you the most?

Note: Though the New Covenant is specifically focused on Israel (cf. house of Israel and "house of Judah" in Jer. 31:31), it is clear that Christians of the present time also stand under its blessings (cf. Luke 22:20; 1 Cor. 11:25; 2 Cor. 3:6)...The New Covenant is God's appointed vehicle for fulfilling the Abrahamic blessings to Israel. But the Abrahamic Covenant also promised universal blessing, so the New Covenant becomes as well God's vehicle of salvation for believers since the Cross.*

  1. A Superior Ministry: Our high priest, Jesus, is not serving in an earthly tabernacle, but at the right hand of the throne of God in heaven. Spend some time in meditation, picture our Lord Jesus seated at the right hand of the throne of God in heaven, and praise Him for being the mediator of the superior ministry of a superior covenant.

  2. A Superior Covenant: The New Covenant is more superior than the Old for it enables: (1) an inner inclination to obey (v.10), (2) a firm relationship with God (v.10), (3) the knowledge of God (v.11), and (4) the forgiveness of sins (v.12). Reflect upon your walk with God and respond to the following questions:

  • a. Have I been sensitive to the laws in my mind and in my heart? How then could I better live a life of obedience?

  • b. How is my relationship with God? In what ways do I know Him? What do I need to do to improve my relationship with Him?

  • c. What are some of the temptations that I’m giving in recently? Why? Come before the Lord and confess your sins, and pray for empowerment to overcome your temptations.

  3. Your own insight: (fill in yourself)

Meditation and Application:

Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Examine your relationship with God and make a plan to improve it.
