Which part of James 1 inspires you the most?
-
Joy in Trials: Trials could produce perseverance and Christian maturity (vv.2-4). We will need God’s wisdom (v.5) and an unwavering faith (vv.6-8) to help us through the various circumstances in life (vv.9-11), which then will lead us into God’s blessing of the crown of life (v.12, i.e. able to experience God’s blessings in this life and the rewards to come in heaven). What are some of the trials that you are facing right now? Have faith in God, knowing that trials will bring maturity and blessings. Hand over all these trials to God and pray for strength and wisdom to handle them.
-
Triumph in Temptations: Temptations spring from our evil desires which result in sin and death (vv.13-15). Let’s realize that the word of truth brings us life eternal (vv.16-18), thus we should rely on God’s words to overcome temptation. Examine your life and see what kind of temptations that you are facing. List down your temptations and think of some bible verses that would help you handle these temptations. Try writing down these bible verses and even posting them up, and memorizing them in the coming weeks.
-
Action in Truth: We should be doers of His words and not merely hearers (vv.22-25). His words could help us in anger control (vv.19-20), pursuit of holiness (vv. 21), control of our tongues (v.26), and practice of godliness (v.27). In what ways have you been a hearer of God’s words and not a doer? What are some of the truth that you have learned but have dragged putting into practice? Why?
