James 3
Tame your tongue! Build up instead of tear down!
Which part of James 3 inspires you the most?
  1. Taming the Tongue: Have you experienced the struggle regarding praising and cursing with the same month? How so? Try to evaluate how you use your tongue. What are some of the encouraging words that you have spoken recently? To whom? And what are some of the negative words that came out of your month recently? To whom? Why?

  2. Two Kinds of Wisdom: There is an earthly wisdom which is characterized by bitter envy and selfish ambition (vv.14-16); on the other hand, there is a heavenly wisdom which is pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere (v.17). What kind of wisdom do you possess? The key is, we need to show our wisdom by our good life, by deeds done in humility (v.13). How could you demonstrate heavenly wisdom in your daily life (i.e. to be pure, peaceable, considerate, submissive, merciful, impartial and sincere, etc.)?

  3. Your own insight: (fill in yourself)

Meditation and Application:

Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Evaluate the ways that you have used your tongue and focus on building up instead of tearing down one another with our words.
