Philippians 3
Forget your past, strain forward to gain Christ!
Which part of Philippians 3 inspires you the most?
-
The Past: Paul exhorted the Philippians to watch out for the Judaizers who put confidence in the flesh (“dogs” in v.2 — those who taught that Christians still needed to follow Old Testament laws). He then mentioned that he considered his credentials as rubbish as he decided to forget his past and to gain Christ. List down some of the things in your past that you need to forget in order to gain Christ? Please focus on both the positives as well as the negatives (i.e. successes and failures).
-
The Present: Paul viewed his spiritual walk as a race and determined to press on and to strain forward towards the goal. In what ways you need to discipline yourself like an athlete to strain forward (e.g. your devotional life, your time management, etc.).
-
The Future: Paul mentioned that he had determined to “press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called (him) heavenward in Christ Jesus” (v.14). What would be your goal(s)?

Meditation and Application: Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Commit your past to the Lord and ask Him to take away all these hindrances, and ask Him to empower you to reach for the goal that He has set before you.
