Revelation 4
Worship — The Heaven Style
Read Revelation 4. Which part of Revelation 4 inspires you the most?

NOTE: “The key word in this chapter is "throne"; it is used fourteen times. In fact, this is a key word in the entire book, appearing forty-six times. No matter what may happen on earth, God is on His throne and is in complete control. Various teachers interpret Revelation in different ways, but all agree that John is emphasizing the glory and sovereignty of God. What an encouragement that would be to the suffering saints of John's day and of every age in history.”

  1. The Glory of God: The one on the throne was described as having the appearance of precious jewels (i.e. jasper and carnelian — the first and last of the 12 gemstones worn on the high priest's breast [cf. Ex. 28:17-21]), surrounded and worshiped by 24 elders and the four living creatures; and from the throne came lightning and thunders. Try imagining yourself being in front of God’s throne, how would you respond to His glory, awesomeness, and holiness? If you were allowed to speak before the Almighty, what would you say? Why?

  2. The Worship of God: Whenever the four living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to God, the 24 elders fall down before Him and worship him. They lay their crowns before the throne and praise God for being the creator.

a) When you look at God’s creation, how would God’s creation prompt you to praise Him? Try to write down some of these praises; if possible, write it as a poem or a praise song.

b) How do the posture (i.e. falling down) and the actions (i.e. casting crowns and praising God) of the 24 elders inspire you regarding the attitude of worship? How could you apply these principles when you worship personally and publicly?

   3. Your own insight: (fill in yourself)

Meditation and Application:

Meditate on the above questions along with the necessary actions. Focus on how the worship in heaven could inspire you in improving your personal and public worship.
