ROmans 7
I can’t do the good that I want to do! What should I do?
Read Romans 7. Which part of Romans 7 inspired you the most?
-
The New Way of the Spirit: We could be motivated to do good by different reasons. Legalism is one, and being obedient to the Spirit is a better one. In what way(s) have you been serving “in the old way of the written code”? What could be some practical ways to make that switch to “serve in the new way of the Spirit”?
-
The Value of the Law: The purpose of the Law is to reveal sin; yet, sin “seizing the opportunity” to deceive us (7:11). In what way you could also “seize the opportunity,” even before sin does, to respond to the reminder of the Law, to be obedient and to keep yourself away from sin? As the psalmist declares, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
-
The Struggle with Sin: In what way you could identify yourself with Paul — “what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do” (7:15ff)? In your experience, what role did Jesus play in “[rescuing you] from this body of death” (7:24)?

Meditation and Application:
On the road to sanctification, the struggle against sin is real and even exhausting. Meditate on the above questions, jot down your insights, and pray and ask God to sustain you throughout the process of sanctification.
